The city seen from the Queensboro Bridge is always the city seen for the first time, in its first wild promise of all the mystery and the beauty in the world.― F. Scott Fitzgerald, The Great Gatsby There is no other city like New York. Though Paris will always be my favorite, I’m lucky to live just 30 minutes outside of Manhattan and over the years have learned a thing or two about enjoying the city with children. A few tips: New York is not dangerous. Please do not wear your […] Continue reading →

Flytographer New York City

It seems that some of the most iconic images of glamour were street shots. Think Audrey Hepburn outside the window of Tiffany’s. The weekly collage of street style photos that run in the New York Times newspaper. Now imagine you could be in those gracefully shot type of high fashion street shots ala yesteryear. Flytographer has created a whole new model of vacation photography. First of all, you don’t need to be on vacation, second, the photos are anything but posed and […] Continue reading →

Want to know what it’s really like to run away with the circus? Cirque du Soleil is not just a resident show at the Bellagio in Vegas, it is a real traveling circus complete with real traveling circus performers. They arrive with everything they need, they even custom designed their own traveling kitchen. A month from now when they move on they will leave nothing but a memory. Keaton follows a long and storied tradition of children enchanted by the circus. In an era of Miley Cyrus and […] Continue reading →

Fashion Week in New York just defines “in the know” and “uber chic”. I was thrilled to get an invite from Mercedes Benz and She Buys Cars to attend the Red Dress Collection show this week. This wasn’t your typical show, as in, Anna Wintour was not in the front row and it wasn’t just one designer. A collection of celebrities, former celebrities and pseudo celebrities (Dr. Oz’s daughter?) strutted the runway in red dresses by different designers all […] Continue reading →

The ladies have outdone themselves this month: learn all about champagne, fix your hangover at the Four Seasons New York brunch and dust off your high school French for a tres magnifique getaway to Quebec City. Mrs O Around the World gives a great 411 on champagne, my drink of choice. For instance, did you know that Rose’ champagne is the only wine that can legally be made by combining white wine with a little red wine? Are there wine police? Also, Rose’ is best enjoyed soon […] Continue reading →

Pour yourself a tall glass of iced tea and settle in for some summer travel dreaming. My girls in the Luxury Travel Blog network have been getting around and share some swoon worthy stories. New York, New York   In the Four Seasons online magazine Have Family, Will Travel I share my go-to guide for enjoying the Big Apple with Kids. To be clear, Bergdorf’s is just around the corner from Dylan’s Candy Bar and Central Park. It’s divine planning. Lisbon, Portugal […] Continue reading →

The Four Seasons in New York is literally rolling out the red carpet for families. I’m often asked, “Do you feel comfortable bringing all of your kids to such fancy hotels?” These questions come from people who clearly know my boys. The answer is absolutely yes. Luxury hotels WANT kids (even wild boys) and the best of these hotels are pulling out all the stops to woo traveling families. We were recently invited to spend the weekend at the uber luxe Four Seasons smack in […] Continue reading →

Today I ran the inaugural 9/11 Memorial 5k. I didn’t really want to. Last week we all watched in horror as the Boston Marathon ended with deadly bombings. The week prior I picked up my terrified teen after her high school was in a lockdown, complete with SWAT team, because of a gun threat. The world just doesn’t feel safe. The idea of running through lower Manhattan and finishing at the 9/11 Memorial sounded scary. I couldn’t think of a better target for some nut job. My […] Continue reading →

Not since “Walking with Dinosaurs” has New York played host to such fabulous prehistoric creatures. If you have a mini-paleontologist in your house, tomorrow is your last day to get up close and personal with these amazing puppets. The New Victory Theater is at the end of it’s run of “Erth’s Dinosaur Zoo” [sic] This show is more than just exciting dinosaurs, it’s a history lesson. It mixes a kid delighting blend of poop humor, audience […] Continue reading →

The New Victory Theater is the hippest Broadway Theater for kids, ever. It’s on 42nd Street and boasts a line up of shows aimed at kids, but enjoyed by the whole family. MamaDrama recently invited me and Keaton to a special event and showing of Urban. I’ve know about the New Vic for years but haven’t made the time to come in for a show, what a mistake. Their shows are not sugar sweet puppet plays or worse, Dora characters dancing and singing onstage. They aren’t […] Continue reading →
